Distributed Generation P1 Practice Test

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight directly into electricity, making them a clean and renewable energy source. This means that they harness a natural and inexhaustible resource—the sun—without emitting greenhouse gases or other pollutants during operation. This characteristic is particularly important as the world moves towards reducing carbon footprints and mitigating climate change. By providing a sustainable way to generate electricity, solar PV systems contribute positively to energy diversification and independence.

The other options highlight characteristics that are contrary to the benefits of solar PV systems. For instance, suggesting that they are the least efficient form of energy production does not accurately reflect their ability to produce power from sunlight, which can be significant in sunny regions. The idea that they primarily use fossil fuels is incorrect since solar PV operates entirely on solar energy. Finally, the assertion that they consume more energy than they produce contradicts the fundamental principle of renewable energy generation, where the aim is to create a surplus of energy from the energy harnessed. Thus, the notable benefit of solar PV systems being a clean, renewable energy source is accurately represented by the correct answer.
